Dentures at Lehigh Valley Smiles

Many of our patients in Easton, PA choose dentures to replace their missing teeth. Cost-effective and removable dentures are an attractive option for many patients at Lehigh Valley Smiles, and they are available as both full and partial devices.

Full dentures can be placed in two ways: conventionally or immediately. Conventional full dentures are used after all of a patient’s teeth have been removed, but only once the gum tissue has healed for a few months. During that healing time, the patient would have no teeth in place. Immediate full dentures, however, are more popular since patients do not have to be toothless for any period of time. For this type, Dr. Alan Dilsaver takes measurements of your mouth prior to removing the teeth. The teeth are removed at the next appointment, and the dentures are immediately placed in your mouth. With this method, a follow-up visit is required so that the dentures can be refitted and tightened since the jawbone changes shape slightly as it heals with no teeth.

Partial dentures are an option for those who do not need all their teeth removed. This type is very similar to bridges, except they are removable instead of permanent.

Whichever dentures our patients choose, the device takes some time getting used to, but as you practice, eating and speaking will get easier. Even though they are not real teeth, dentures should still be cared for as if they were. To ensure your dentures last, be sure to brush them before removal and place them in room temperature water or cleaning solution overnight.

Teeth Whitening in Easton, PA

Your teeth can become stained or discolored, even if you focus on keeping them clean. Things like drinking wine and coffee, or smoking cigarettes can stain your teeth over an extended period of time. If your teeth have lost their luster, it might be time to get teeth whitening performed. Our Lehigh Valley Smiles dental office offers the tray whitening system for brightening your teeth, which provides excellent results and is done as part of a two-step process.

The first step of tray whitening is taking impressions of your teeth to be used for creating custom trays. While it takes about 2-3 weeks for the trays to be fabricated, they are reusable in case you want to get teeth whitening repeated in the future. Once the trays are ready, patients return to our Easton, PA dental practice where we fill the trays with a whitening gel and place the trays on the teeth. The tray is worn for a specific period of time, and we ask patients to repeat the process over several days.

Once the tray whitening process is complete, the teeth are 4-8 shades whiter and patients are given the trays and extra whitening gel to use again when they choose to. If you are looking for whiter teeth, call dentist Dr. Alan Dilsaver at 610-252-7414 to schedule an appointment. Visit www.lehighvalleysmiles.net.

Waterlase Technology at Lehigh Valley Smiles

Patented Waterlase® technology utilizes YSGG laser energy and a water spray to create a more comfortable experience during certain dental procedures. This technology allows Dr. Alan Dilsaver to use fewer shots and less anesthesia, which provides more comfort and eases anxiety for the patient while he performs corrective dentistry. This is why we offer Waterlase® technology at Lehigh Valley Smiles in Easton, PA.

Waterlase® technology can be used to remove tooth enamel decay, which is the hardest substance in the human body, as well as bone and gum tissue. It can do so without affecting surrounding areas, which means that you will be able to keep more of your healthy tooth structure if decay does need to be removed. The technology can also be used for root canals, smile design and bone and gum surgery. When used in preparation for cavity fillings, it can actually result in longer-lasting fillings.

This technology bypasses the pain caused by other dental tools by cutting without the use of heat, pressure or vibration, allowing dentists to cut teeth, gums and bone with less trauma. The benefits of the technology include less post-operative pain, bleeding and swelling. There is also usually less of a need for pain medication, and because it requires less anesthesia, Dr. Dilsaver can perform the procedures instead of referring you to an outside specialist.
